Right from the start, they placed trailers before films and shows. Interestingly, though, Amazon Prime already does exactly that. Reddit was awash with angry comments from users promising to cancel their subscription if Netflix don’t backtrack. As you might expect, though, the public response wasn’t exactly stellar. Instead, they’re trailers for other Netflix shows- basically the same thing the BBC does. Well, not ads in the strictest sense of the word. In other Netflix news, the streaming platform is starting to test out ads between episodes. But the fact remains: from now on, if you’ve got an opinion about a Netflix show, take it elsewhere. Of course, we’d never want to suggest that any algorithm was simply a tool to give consumers the illusion of choice, while actually narrowing down their options. Some might even go so far as to say it’s completely made up, and merely pushes content that Netflix has spent big bucks to acquire. Sceptics amongst you may doubt that algorithm isn’t quite what it appears. However, they’re really focused on their own algorithm that supposedly matches users with stuff they might want to watch, based on a percentage. There’s still some user input- you can give shows a thumbs-up or thumbs-down. The company had been looking for a less text-heavy way of recommending content for a good while. ![]() That’s because the only way you could find them was by going on their site. If you use an app to watch Netflix, you might not even have been aware that there were user reviews up there. Now, though, the streaming platform has finally pulled the plug on user reviews completely. Those that had already been written were to remain up somewhere, caught in review-limbo. A few months ago, Netflix announced that they would no longer allow users to write new reviews of films and shows.
